THE RSM JOURNEY

Structure first.
Freedom that lasts.

Recovery Soldiers Ministries is a demanding, Christ-centered residential program for adult men and women. Over twelve months, residents move from close guidance and foundational discipleship toward leadership, responsibility, and independent living.

OUTPATIENT RECOVERY

Support for recovery.
Room for everyday life.

Available only at our Grundy County, Tennessee campus, our Intensive Outpatient Program serves men and women ages 18 and older with structured counseling and recovery support while living at home. Explore what to expect and how to apply.

MORE THAN SOBRIETY

Recovery means learning how to live.

Our heart is long-term stability and life restoration. Residents learn to meet responsibilities, work through pressure, serve others, repair relationships, manage increasing freedom, and build a life rooted in Jesus Christ.

PEOPLE WALKING ALONGSIDE YOU

Counseling and recovery support.

RSM’s team includes three Licensed Professional Counselors, along with addiction counseling and peer recovery support staff. Speak with admissions about the services and staff available for your campus and care needs.

A PROGRESSION OF TRUST

Four phases—from full structure to independence.

The program requires at least 12 months. An approved transition around months 8–10 is part of that commitment, not early graduation. Advancement reflects growth, consistency, leadership, and readiness.

01
MONTHS 1–4

Foundation

The base-level program removes outside distractions so residents can concentrate on Christ, recovery, discipline, and healthy daily habits.

  • Highly structured daily living and guided decision-making
  • Four discipleship-study contracts and biblical foundations
  • Addiction education and inner-healing classes
  • Work therapy, classes, counseling, and community responsibilities
  • Family communication according to current campus guidelines
02
BEGINNING AROUND MONTH 4

Dorm Leader

Residents begin moving from being led to serving and guiding others. Leadership starts with responsibility in the place they live.

  • Help oversee dorm responsibilities and standards
  • Serve as a shadow brother or sister to new residents
  • Model consistency, accountability, and appropriate communication
  • Receive additional privileges as trust grows
03
BEGINNING AROUND MONTH 6

Emerging Leader

The program shifts toward meaningful independence. Emerging leaders practice handling people, resources, schedules, and personal responsibilities.

  • Lead crews and help guide the resident population
  • May be entrusted with vehicles, ministry funds, and a ministry phone
  • Home passes, days off, appointments, and personal matters
  • Biweekly scholarship stipend and practical budgeting
  • Open a bank account and prepare for stable independent living
04
OPTIONAL · BEGINNING AROUND MONTHS 8–10

Independent Living

At all four campuses, eligible residents may begin the transition phase around months 8–10, moving into approved housing and employment while remaining accountable to RSM. Entry depends on readiness and leadership approval.

  • Secure employment and move into independent housing
  • Receive help pursuing reliable transportation when needed
  • Manage work, finances, appointments, and everyday pressures
  • Demonstrate continued stability and meet graduation requirements throughout the transition phase

WORK THERAPY & OUTREACH

Responsibility is part of recovery.

RSM is a work-study program. Residents participate in unpaid, structured work therapy that includes community outreach, storefront fundraising, practical service, and hands-on projects. This work helps spread awareness of the program, gives the public an opportunity to support the ministry, and develops endurance, teamwork, confidence, and real-life responsibility.

8hours of work therapy
per day, typically

Participants must be physically able to meet the program’s work-therapy requirements. Admissions will discuss health, ability, and current expectations before acceptance.

THE WHOLE-HEALTH MODEL

Every part of life becomes part of the work.

The schedule is intentionally full. Healing is practiced through Scripture, relationships, responsibility, service, and the gradual return of freedom.

01

Discipleship

Teen Challenge curriculum, Breaking Free, Personal Studies for New Christians, biblical foundations, prayer, worship, and daily application of Scripture.

02

Inner Healing

Classes and counseling help residents confront destructive patterns, past pain, relationships, and the spiritual roots beneath addiction.

03

Professional Counseling

Residents may meet with RSM’s licensed professional counselor monthly or every two weeks according to individual need and program guidance.

04

Leadership Development

Residents learn how to direct a team, hold hard conversations appropriately, protect trust, and lead by example.

05

Family Restoration

When appropriate, family counseling and guided reconnection begin later in the program to support healing and healthy relationships.

06

Life Readiness

Budgeting, banking, appointments, employment, transportation, decision-making, and transition planning prepare residents for life after RSM.

FAMILY & CONNECTION

Restoration reaches beyond one life.

Family contact grows as residents establish a strong foundation and move into greater responsibility. Because schedules differ by campus and phase, admissions explains current phone, visitation, blackout, and approved-contact policies before arrival.

Elizabethton & Watauga

Residents regularly attend Thursday worship at 7:00 p.m. at 1180 Bristol Highway. Residents remain seated with their program during worship; afterward, approved family members join their loved one for a 20–30 minute visit.

Monthly Family Day

Women’s campuses hold Family Day on the first Sunday of each month. Men’s campuses hold Family Day on the fourth Sunday. Approved immediate family members visit for three hours and bring a meal to share with their loved one. Arrangements should be confirmed with staff.

THE GOAL

A stable life that can carry real responsibility.

Graduation is not simply reaching the end of twelve months. It means demonstrating sobriety, consistency, leadership, and the ability to live responsibly with increasing independence.

Graduates who show a strong fit for ministry may be invited into a six-month internship and considered for a long-term staff career with RSM.

71%of graduates are known to remain sober. This internal ministry outcome includes graduates only and is based on continued relationships and information shared through ongoing personal contact. It is not an independent clinical study.

LIFE AFTER GRADUATION

When you graduate,
you’re family.

RSM is about more than twelve months. We believe in building a community of lasting friendships—people who celebrate with you, pray with you, and keep showing up for one another as you walk in freedom.

For those who stay on and serve with our crews, and for those in our transitional community, that bond continues through everyday life. We work together, laugh together, share meals, and make memories. There is joy in discovering the beautiful life God has given us—and having people to share it with.

Graduation marks a new chapter in that connection. Stay in touch. Stay involved. Keep building the friendships and faith that helped you grow. Our heart is for every graduate to remain connected to a community of support, love, and encouragement long after the program ends.

A new life in Christ. A family to share it with.
